Event: 6.7K Backyard Format
The River-Run Backyard Ultra starting on 24 October 2026 is a last one standing endurance event in Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay.
A Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a 6.7km course in less than one hour, every hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is used to recover and replenish for the next hour's race. The race finishes when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.
The course is flat and beautiful, meandering alongside the Tukituki river on a mix of limestone and dirt single trails.
There is also a kids' version where the kids run a shorter loop, every 10 minutes for 1 hour.
Profits from the event will be donated to the Waipukurau Rotary River Pathways Trust.
